Badminton Halls Re-Opening

Further to my previous post, again, many of you will have seen the media briefing on Friday 29th providing more details on the protocols to adopt as we move into phase 4 of the release from lock down.

I can now confirm that we will be able to restart badminton at our halls with effect from Monday 1st June.

There remain certain strict limitations though and more detailed guidelines will follow shortly for those able and looking to play.

Headlines for now are as follows…

Only organised sessions for adults (over 18’s) will be allowed. These include one to one training and coaching, Summer club and island games squad training sessions. If any other organised clubs wish to book committed slots then these will also be allowed.

There will be restricted numbers allowed in the halls. Players and coach numbers in attendance will be limited to a maximum of 30 individuals:   each person must sign in at the door and provide contact information.

Social distancing of 1 metre in line with a ‘controlled environment’ will still be necessary. Bar/Canteen area and Changing rooms will be out of bounds and sealed off but toilets will be available.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer junior group sessions at this time as the SoG guidelines prevent indoor activities for mixed age and/or children from differing schools. In fact, juniors are also currently not allowed to play in the senior sessions we can run.

As an alternative for our junior members we will be looking to provide one to one coaching sessions as a way to get back into playing..more on this will be provided shortly.

We also cannot yet accommodate ad hoc players turning up to feed the meter and play – only pre booked organised club or squad sessions are allowed.

Coaches and club organisers can now consult with Mandi Rutter (bookings@badminton.org.gg) to plan and book sessions and aim to advise your players accordingly.

There are likely to be a number of questions forthcoming with this announcement and I will do my best to respond.
